TESI to host first Processing Community Day in Africa
Lira, Uganda — Triskelion Education and Skills Initiative (TESI) is set to host Processing Community Day (PCD) 2026 in Lira, Uganda, bringing the global creative-coding community to Northern Uganda.
The event will mark an important milestone for TESI and the local technology and education ecosystem, as PCD @ Lira 2026 becomes the first Processing Community Day event in Africa.
Processing Community Day is a global network of community-led events that brings together artists, designers, technologists, educators, students and open-source communities to learn, create and connect around creative coding.
At the heart of PCD is a celebration of creative coding and the people and communities who create, maintain and teach open-source tools such as Processing and p5.js. Each event is independently organized by its local community, allowing participants to explore creative coding in ways that reflect their local context.
Bringing Creative Coding to Northern Uganda
For TESI, hosting PCD @ Lira is an opportunity to introduce more young people, educators and technology enthusiasts in Northern Uganda to the possibilities of creative coding.
Creative coding sits at the intersection of technology, art, design and education. It provides learners with an engaging way to develop computational thinking, programming skills and creativity while building things they can see, interact with and share.
Through the event, TESI hopes to create a space where students, teachers, developers, designers, artists and other members of the technology community can learn from one another and explore new ways of using technology creatively.
Part of a Global Community
Although PCD events are organized independently by local communities, they are connected through a global Processing community.
The official Processing Community Day platform encourages events to take place around October, allowing communities around the world to celebrate creative coding together. Importantly, there is no single mandatory date for all PCD events.
PCD @ Lira 2026 has already been recognized on the official Processing Community Day map. The event was submitted to the global PCD community in May 2026, and organizers confirmed that “PCD @ Lira” was live on the official map, providing a platform for the Lira community to connect with the wider global network.
Why Lira?
Lira City is increasingly becoming a hub for education, technology, entrepreneurship and community-led innovation in Northern Uganda. Hosting an international open-source and creative-coding event in Lira demonstrates that important conversations around technology and innovation do not have to happen only in Kampala or other major global technology centres.
TESI believes that young people in Northern Uganda should have opportunities to interact with global technology communities, learn emerging skills and participate in the creation—not merely consumption—of technology.
PCD @ Lira is therefore more than a technology event. It is an opportunity to connect Northern Uganda to a global community of creators and innovators.
An Invitation to the Community
TESI is inviting students, teachers, developers, designers, artists, technology enthusiasts, educators and open-source contributors to join the initiative and help shape PCD @ Lira 2026. The event will also provide opportunities for people interested in creative coding to contribute as co-organizers, speakers, facilitators, mentors and participants.
