TESI: Helping Disadvantaged Students reach University
In northern Uganda, where access to higher education remains a challenge for many low-income and disadvantaged students, the Triskelion Education and Skills Initiative (TESI) is making a significant impact. Through its Career & University Readiness Programme (CURP), TESI is opening doors for students who might otherwise struggle to pursue university education.
One of TESI’s key strategies is participatory educational career guidance. Many students, particularly in underserved regions, lack exposure to proper career advice, making it difficult for them to make informed choices about their futures. TESI fills this gap by offering workshops and one-on-one counseling, ensuring that students select courses aligned with their interests, abilities, and job market trends.
Beyond career guidance, TESI plays a crucial role in supporting students with university and scholarship applications. Many promising students fail to access higher education due to a lack of knowledge on how to apply for universities or secure financial aid. TESI assists them in navigating the complex application process, increasing their chances of admission to public universities and securing scholarships.
For those who need financial aid, TESI further extends its support to government loan scheme applications. Given that tuition costs remain a major barrier for many families, TESI ensures that students from disadvantaged backgrounds are well-prepared to apply for Uganda’s Higher Education Students’ Financing Board (HESFB) loans. By guiding them through the process, TESI empowers more students to attain university education without the burden of financial constraints.
Beyond academics, TESI is committed to mentorship and professional development. The organization nurtures young people into hardworking professionals by connecting them with mentors in various fields. These mentorship programs equip students with essential skills, confidence, and work ethics needed to excel in their careers.
Thanks to TESI’s unwavering commitment, many students from northern Uganda who once saw university education as an unattainable dream are now enrolling in prestigious institutions. As the initiative continues to grow, it promises to shape a new generation of educated, skilled, and empowered young professionals ready to transform their communities.
