This year, the UACE candidates shall fill PUJAB forms online. As such, we anticipate some challenges, on part of the both teachers and students. These FAQs aim to clarify the most common questions and make the application process smoother for all. We strongly encourage parents to support their children to fill these forms.
What is a PUJAB form, and who needs to fill it out?
The PUJAB form is an application form for Senior Six (S.6) leavers seeking admission to public universities and other government-aided tertiary institutions in Uganda under government sponsorship. It allows applicants to indicate their program and institution preferences.
How can I access the PUJAB form?
The application process has moved online, and applicants/schools can access the form through the Academic Management Information System (AMIS) available at https://pujab.mak.ac.ug/ . The application period for the 2025-2026 academic year runs from November 4 to December 31, 2024.
What are the eligibility requirements for government sponsorship?
To qualify, students must have at least two principal passes at UACE (Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education) and a minimum of five credit passes in UCE (Uganda Certificate of Education) from a single sitting. Admission criteria also include weighted scores based on subject performance and additional points for certain criteria such as gender.

Applicants can choose up to 14 study programs at public universities and other tertiary institutions. There are 6 slots for national merit, 4 slots for district quota, and another 4 slots for diploma course available at tertiary institutions. Note that ranking these choices carefully is essential, as admission depends on available space, cut-off points, and eligibility for the selected programs.
How many students does the government sponsor each year?
The government provides 4,000 scholarships annually for undergraduate programmes in public universities. About 75% of the scholarships are awarded under the national merit scheme. A total of 2,350 students were admitted in 2024 under this scheme. The remaining 25% of the slots are for the district quota system, where each district admits between 4-7 students. There are also 64 slots for students with special needs, and 40 scholarships for talented sports personalities.
Can I change my program choices after submitting the PUJAB form?
Generally, once the form is submitted, changes are not permitted. Applicants should consult their school guidance counsellors or the admissions office to ensure they are making well-informed decisions before submission
Is there an affirmative action or special consideration in admissions?
Yes, there is an affirmative action policy. Female applicants receive an additional 1.5 points to boost gender equity, and special considerations are also made for applicants with disabilities and talented athletes/sports persons.
What is the deadline for PUJAB form submission?
For the 2025-2026 academic year, all applications must be submitted by December 31, 2024. Late submissions may not be accepted, so it’s essential to complete the form within the stated period

In some cases, applicants may be admitted to alternative programs based on their scores, even if these were not their top preferences. Students not admitted through government sponsorship can still apply for the Private Entry Scheme if they meet the entry requirements.
Is filling PUJAB form really worth it?
Getting a study scholarship/sponsorship relieves the financial burden on your parents, and guardians. They have been paying your school fees and supporting you for about 16-18 years. Never stop searching for study funding opportunities.
How do I calculate course points or weight?
Each course or study programme has a cut-off points. Example Bachelor of Medicine has had 50 points. These points are obtained from both UCE and UACE results. If you are struggling with how to calculate O-level and A-level points (weighting system), you can use the Calcut mobile app, or access it using this link: https://calcut.web.app/auth
